Overview of Sheet Metal Surface Treatment
Surface treatment is the essential final core process of precision sheet metal manufacturing and a key procedure to enhance the durability, functionality and decorative performance of export sheet metal products. Based on different material properties and customer application requirements, a series of physical, chemical and electrochemical treatments are applied to the surface of sheet metal workpieces to remove surface defects, isolate air and corrosive media, and form uniform and stable protective or decorative layers. As a standard supporting process for foreign trade sheet metal customization, it fundamentally solves common problems of metal products such as easy rust, oxidation, low wear resistance and single appearance color.
Core Process Principles
Physical Surface Treatment Principle Mechanical processing removes burrs, weld marks, rust and uneven textures on sheet metal. It optimizes surface flatness and roughness, strengthens coating adhesion without altering material properties. Safe, controllable and pollution-free, it fits most sheet metal pre-treatment and finishing.
Chemical & Electrochemical Treatment Principle Chemical and electrolytic treatment form protective films/coatings on metal surfaces. They deliver effective rust and corrosion resistance. Stable film thickness and uniform color meet export products’ functional and decorative demands.
Foreign Trade Grade Quality Control Standards
Surface Appearance Standards Smooth, flat surface with even color. Free of color difference, spots, bubbles, pinholes, scratches, cracks, impurities, weld marks and processing traces. Uniform texture complying with export inspection criteria.
Coating & Film Layer Performance Standards Thickness: Within required range, uniform across surface.
Adhesion: Firm coating, no peeling in adhesion tests.
Hardness & Wear resistance: Resists scratches and impacts, no damage in regular use.
Anti-corrosion: Passes salt spray & humidity tests; no rust or oxidation during service life.
Batch Consistency Standards Uniform color, gloss, thickness and texture among batches. Stable dimensions without deformation. Good interchangeability for bulk export.
We fully inspect and sort sheet metal semi-finished products, eliminating defective pieces with deformation, poor welding or damage. Workpieces are categorized by material and client requirements to formulate matched treatment plans.
Complete Surface Treatment Process Flow
Remove oil, dust, weld spatter and oxide layers via degreasing, pickling and rinsing. Aluminum and stainless steel parts get deoxidation and brightening to ensure clean, dry surfaces for subsequent coating.
Grind and polish workpieces for smooth surfaces; apply sand/bead blasting for uniform matte texture. Both methods eliminate processing marks and boost coating adhesion.
We apply powder coating, painting, anodizing, electroplating, passivation or black oxide per drawings and usage. Strict parameter control ensures even film, consistent color and no defects.
Sprayed products go through high-temperature curing to enhance coating hardness and adhesion. Anodized and passivated parts receive sealing to block micropores and strengthen corrosion resistance.
Full quality check is conducted against export standards for coating thickness, adhesion, color and anti-corrosion property. Defects get reworked, and qualified goods are filed for traceability.
